Festival 1001 delicija 2006.

The second open air festival of original oeno-gastronomic products of highest quality and high gastronomy, 1001 delicija, was held on Prokurative square, in Split, 1 and 2 of June 2006. More than 45 food and wine producers from all around Croatia presented their products proving once again the richness of Croatian gastronomic offer which is more and more appreciated abroad.

Besides the main local media that followed the festival, more than 20 journalists from different countries of Europe attended the manifestation. They tasted the Dalmatian "pršut" (a delicious local smoked prosciutto), the famous cheese from the island of Pag (paški sir), the kulen (Slavonian spicy salami), smoked fish, anchovies, olives and olive oil, toghether with excellent wines and spirits (travarica, sljivovica) from the region. But they could also enjoy sweet delicacies, like honey, jams, fig cakes, almond cookies, sweetened orange peels all made in a traditional way. The closing event of the festival was a culinary competition among six teams of journalists (from Italy, France, Austria, Sweden, Croatia and an EU team, with a mixed "crew"), each led by a professional cook from different countries. However, the Croatian team was led by the Mayor of Split, Mister Zvonimir Puljić who had a very special help from Ivana Ergić, the charming 19 year old Miss Croatia 2006.

The visitors attended the workshops on wine, cheese, olive oil, aswell as gastronomic presentations of famous croatian and foreign cooks.

The president of Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, Mr Piero Sardo, who attended for the first time the festival 1001 delicija in Split, invited us to the manifestation Terra Madre, within the Salone del gusto, the famous Slow Food gastronomic fair in Torino (26-30 october 2006).Two of our small producers, Anka Prpić, with her wild berries jams "Teta Anka", and the Vukšić family with their original cake, made with all mediterranean ingredients, olive oil included , and called "Diocletian's crown", will be in Torino. Aswell as our chef Zlatko Marinović, the Croatian Golden cook of the year, from the renomated restaurant "Noštromo", in Split.
